2016 Speech reflection
My speech topic this year was Sir Peter Blake and how ordinary New Zealander's can achieve extraordinary things. Writing about Sir Peter Blake was a challenge and it was hard to keep my speech short. My judges comments was strong voice, projected well, good emphasis, knew speech really well, keep still!! Next year I will focus on standing still 2015 Apiti Speech - The Deadly White Powder I think my speech went well as I had a good structure and I said it clearly
Reading My reading goal is to expand my vocabulary. I am going to read lots and pick out new words and tune in to interesting words. I will use new vocabulary in speaking and writing. 2014

because I didn't look at my cards too much.
I enjoyed writing my speech because while I wrote it I thought about what I would do.
Next time I will improve it by speaking more clearly.

I am practicing my reading comprehension. I can check for understanding by retelling the story. I need to use everything I have just read to help me retell.
Term 3I am reading for fluency
Thank you E.C read’n and Eastern and Central Community Trust and the Feilding library for the noodle cups and the gel pens ... plus the free book. We all enjoyed doing it soooo much. I improved my vocabulary. I also improved my writing and drawing skills. I hope you do it again next year because I loved writing about all the books I read.

Snow On Monday morning I got out of bed and looked out the window and I saw snow. Walked to the kitchen to have breakfast. For breakfast I had caiulo then mummy said that we are going home so I got dressed. We were off. Snow + I am learning to add lots of description to my writing .
The Holidays I was so excited because I was going to Vanuatu for the very first time and I was excited because I was going to see Granny and Vic. When we got to the resort Mummy and Johnny got the key. Then we walked to the house and we all got into our togs, and walked down to the pools to have a swim because it was so hot. Johnny jumped into the kids pool. Daddy and I walked into the cold pool .I saw the cold pool had a pool bar. It was lucky because Johnny and I had a lemonade there. When we walked back we went for a run up the hill and back. After we got ready for tea we walked to the restaurant .The food there was scrumptious . Each night had different food. I really liked the night when special dancers came . They went all around us when they were dancing. One day I had my hair braided at the dress markets. I still have them in my hair. Johnny played golf with Daddy and Vic. When it was Children's day they had kayak races . Daddy sunk his kayak . Johnny had to go on a jet ski back to shore. One day Johnny and I went to kid club and we had a hermit crab races Johnny was number two and I was one . As soon as we had finished the hermit crab races Dad came to pick us up to go to the Karaoke. The next day I woke up at 4am because we had to go back to New Zealand.

On the weekend I went to Wellington.To see the Hurricanes vs the Crusaders it was
fun. The crusaders won.and when we went out I saw some people that I play netball
with. Poppy was being funny.
I am writing character descriptions . Can you guess which fairy tale this charactrer is from. He is little.He looks like a prickle . He is grumpy. He likes to steal babies. He helps people. He likes to steal living things. And his name is it is a secret.

2.05.2011 Goal ;- to add lots of description in my writing and tell the reader lots of information.On the school holidays I went to Sixtus Lodge for the Girl Guide Camp. My Mum was one of the adults that went to the Girl Guide Camp. I was in the Zippy Zebas group. My group was Hayley, Sarah and Sophia. I had to get all of my stuff out of the car and put it into my room. My Mum put a sign up to show where the girls were sleeping. I was with the Brownies. The Guides had to sleep in a tent for one night. They had to make their own food for the night. The Pippins came on the second night because they were little. When the Pippins came we made bracelets and necklaces. Then we went on a bush walk, when we came back we had to find our own food in the garden. I walked inside to have my lunch. It was time to go and on the way we had to take Hannah, Emma and Charlotte home with us, but we could not fit them in easily, so we had to squish together, but we got home alright in the end.After Girl Guide camp we were going to go to Kinloch so I had to get my bag and unpack it very quickly. We got everything and we were off. My brother was a bit silly on the way.When we got there we went to the Hot Pools.. We got a Family Pass so we could go on the slide. Dear Honey farm
I was excited about the honey farm. I learnt all about bees. I didn’t know that they take off the boy wings and throw them out of the bee hive when they are lazy. I thought that the queen bee only laid 50 eggs a day butshe lays about 2000 eggs a day I think .
It was interesting to see how you put the Honey into a machine and turn the handle to make the wax go off the sides and the honey drop out the bottom as honey ready to be put in pots and sold.
Thank you very much for giving us a jar of honey. Everyone was amazed about that.
I enjoyed the video . It was cool.
I like the bees giving us honey because when I have a cold Mum gives me a drink of lemon and yummy Honey.School trips are cool because we learn heaps more than we actually know.

2.3.2011 I woke up and I went slowly down the stairs. I went into my mums room but they were not there, so I ran to the lounge but only my brother was in the house. So I went into the lounge and I saw the tv was on. My brother was having his breakfast .7.3.2011Tomorrow we are going to Hawkes Bay for our School Camp. I am excited. For the Apiti Show I wrote this letter.

4th December 1924
Dear Charlotte
I go to Apiti District High School and I have to wake up early and milk the cow before I go to school. Then I have porridge for my breakfast. My Mum cooks it on the wood stove and I put fresh creamy milk on it.
Then I go out and catch my horse. It takes quite a long time to catch and I put the bridle and saddle on her. Mum makes my lunch and I have yummy sandwiches with homemade butter. Finally, it’s time to ride to school. Sometimes my pony gallops and we get to school fast and sometimes she bucks and I have to hold on tight.
When I get to school the teacher lights the fire and rings the bell to start the day. We sit in our desks and say our tables and our alphabet together. Girls wear dresses and the boys wear shorts, white shirts and a tie. At school I have to sit very still or I’ll get the strap and it hurts like when you fall on the gravel road.
I always try my hardest at school because when I grow up I want to be a teacher.

Sophie 2010term 4 On the weekend it was my birthday party. It was a fancy dressparty. First we played eat the chocolate. We had to put on ahat and a scarf and some gloves. It poured down with rain.So we had to do it again and again and again but then therain stopped.We split up into groups Oral / readingI ambuddy reading with Charlotte.
On Lamb and Calf Day I was so excited, but it hailed, so I kept Lizzy warm It was my brother's birthday. In the morning I made a boot .It was my first lamb and calf day. I come 3rd in care and attention I was proud of Lizzy. I played with Alex, Hayley,and Derek and Tyler . I come first in the gumboots. it had shells on it.On my t shirt there is a Blue Duck . I screen printed it on .For pottery I made a bowl and a Happy Face mug . I come first in my pottery. For my research I learnt about tractors and what they were like years ago.
Term 3Listen to my speech.
Listen to my reading click on the arrow. I am reading The Careful Crocodile. I read it well I used expression, my voice went up and down and I stopped at the fullstops and took a breath. I practised it before I read it out loud.
I will read harder words. I will sound out the words by using my blends , and cutting up words them up cr..o..co..dile . and then join them up again crocodile.
Australia "Wake up Brooke it is time to go" said my mum and dad "it is time to go to Australia." We headed to Wellington to get on the plane. On the way my brother could not get to sleep before the plane ride or on the plane. After the plane landed my brother was excited and I was excited too. The first thing we did was go to my Aunties house to stay the night. In the morning we woke up and we went to Movie World. We saw Batman. At movie world I went on a Roller Coaster and I went on the Scooby Doo Roller Coaster. Then we went to my cousins house. We stayed there. We swam in their pool and it was cold. Dad played golf and mum had a good time. The next day me and Oscar went to Dream World and we saw a Wombat and we got to pat a kangaroo . Then we went to the motorbike Roller coaster and it took a long time because it was a huge queue. My legs were sore because I was waiting so long. But the ride was better than I thought it would be because it was not too scary. I sat in a kids cart and my Dad sat in the motorbike. It went round and round real fast. My mum, Oscar and Johnny watched the tiger movie. In Australia the best part was having candy floss.
My goal to write lots of description in my story and I wrote a good description about the queue and how I felt.
How the Kiwi got stuck One bright morning kiwi got out of bed too early. He stumbled through the long grass. He was thirsty so he walked to the dam he got to the dam and he went in a little had a drink He was ready to get out when he found himself stuck in the mud. “Help help” he was crying out to his best friend Tane the pukeko. He kept on calling until Tane came. He tugged and he pulled with a really long and strong rope until the kiwi came out. They waddled to safety and then Tane took the kiwi home and now he knows to drink from the pond. So the next day the kiwi was thirsty for a drink he went to the pond for his drink. But when Tane went to the dam for a drink and he was ready to get out when he found himself stuck like his friend the kiwi but he called out to a different friend called kawaka the Tui .He called until he came he tugged and he pulled until Tane got his friend out. His friend kawaka the Tui took him back to the house that the kiwi was in and so now the Tane knows not to drink in the dam. They should still drink from pond. And that is really good friendship helping each other.
A movie script written by Hannah and Brooke
I can write re-counts. 26.4.2010 On the weekend I went to the gym and at the gym I swung on bars. I jumped on the trampoline and I climbed up some ropes. The best part of gym was swinging on the bars. Then we went to the park.
21.4.2010 In the School holidays I went to Auckland. When we got there we set up the place and then we went for a walk to find my Aunty. While we were waiting for my aunty to come out we were looking at the boats and then we thought that my aunty might be out of her meeting. And then my aunty showed us a round at her work.
Whakarewarewa Concert
When we arrived at Whakarewarewa we were a bit late so we had to run up the hill and ask the people where to go. We arrived at the concert and we could hear songs and we quickly sat down to watch the concert. After we sat down we listened to them singing and telling us the story about the Village.
Then they asked us to come up on stage. They taught us how to sing the Hokey Tokey with Maori words for hands = ringringa, legs = waewae, head = mahuta.
Then we had our hangi . And the hangi was really yummy in my tummy. Then we looked around the village and it was really hot and steamy and the ground hot too.
The Lunch Graph The most favourite lunch was the Hangi . The second favourite was the buns with meat and salad. The hangi was yummy . I liked the corned beef best. It was all cooked in the steam box over the hot poI am writing recounts that tell what happened. For Christmas I got a pair of running shoes, I got some garden tools, and I got some chocolate coins. On Christmas morning we had breakfast. I had hash browns and toast. Then I played the piano. Then it started to rain and then the rain stopped and my Granny took me to the ice-cream shop. After that we went bowling. I won the bowling out of the girls and my Granny was second. My Dad won out of the boys and my brother was second. What a fun Christmas !

I am reading books fluently. If I am unsure I re-read the sentence again, or look at the first sounds. I am learning my blends. I know what a fullstop, question mark ? , shouting mark ! , and speech marks " " look like and why they are in stories. I am writing words by finding the initial letter and try the words in my dictionary by myself now.
The School Concert - Grease
Last night at the school concert I was excited. Mummy and Johnny and
Grandpa came at the day time concert .
Grandad and Granny and Vic and Daddy came at night time.
Vic liked the dancing.
I liked the dancing too.
I liked the rock and roll best .It was fun.
I think I was awesome . I really liked it .
Skiing Mum pushed me and Charlotte on the sled down the hill. Then we went to the lesson. and then we went skiing in the snow. mum and I went up the chairlift. I learnt how to ski. I went skiing with Hannah. Then I skied down the hill then we went on the magic carpet. It took us up the hill. The magic carpet stopped and I fell off. I got up and went down again. It was my first time skiing and now I can ski. The best part was the skiing lesson. I learnt how to walk up the hill. You have to walk sideways. We had a great day. I was tired. By Brooke

On the weekend I went to the gym and at the gym I swung on bars. I jumped on the trampoline and I climbed up some ropes. The best part of gym was swinging on the bars.
Then we went to the park.

In the School holidays I went to Auckland. When we got there we set up the place and then we went for a walk to find my Aunty. While we were waiting for my aunty to come out we were looking at the boats and then we thought that my aunty might be out of her meeting. And then my aunty showed us a round at her work.
Whakarewarewa Concert
When we arrived at Whakarewarewa we were a bit late so we had to run up the hill and ask the people where to go. We arrived at the concert and we could hear songs and we quickly sat down to watch the concert. After we sat down we listened to them singing and telling us the story about the Village.
Then they asked us to come up on stage. They taught us how to sing the Hokey Tokey with Maori words for hands = ringringa, legs = waewae, head = mahuta.
Then we had our hangi . And the hangi was really yummy in my tummy. Then we looked around the village and it was really hot and steamy and the ground hot too.
The Lunch Graph
The most favourite lunch was the Hangi . The second favourite was the buns with meat and salad. The hangi was yummy . I liked the corned beef best. It was all cooked in the steam box over the hot poI am writing recounts that tell what happened.
For Christmas I got a pair of running shoes, I got some garden tools, and I got some chocolate coins.
On Christmas morning we had breakfast. I had hash browns and toast. Then I played the piano. Then it started to rain and then the rain stopped and my Granny took me to the ice-cream shop. After that we went bowling. I won the bowling out of the girls and my Granny was second. My Dad won out of the boys and my brother was second.

- sound words out
- look at letters in a word to help sound them out
- know how to read more basic words
I am reading books fluently. If I am unsure I re-read the sentence again, or look at the first sounds. I am learning my blends. I know what a fullstop, question mark ? , shouting mark ! , and speech marks " " look like and why they are in stories. I am writing words by finding the initial letter and try the words in my dictionary by myself now.
The School Concert - Grease
Last night at the school concert I was excited. Mummy and Johnny and
Grandpa came at the day time concert .
Grandad and Granny and Vic and Daddy came at night time.
Vic liked the dancing.
I liked the dancing too.
I liked the rock and roll best .It was fun.
I think I was awesome . I really liked it .
Skiing
Mum pushed me and Charlotte on the sled down the hill. Then we went to the lesson. and then we went skiing in the snow. mum and I went up the chairlift. I learnt how to ski. I went skiing with Hannah. Then I skied down the hill then we went on the magic carpet. It took us up the hill.
The magic carpet stopped and I fell off. I got up and went down again.
It was my first time skiing and now I can ski.
The best part was the skiing lesson. I learnt how to walk up the hill. You have to walk sideways. We had a great day.
I was tired.
